JEE 2027 Question of the Day
A solid cylinder of mass $M$ and radius $R$ rolls without slipping down an inclined plane of inclination $\theta$. The minimum coefficient of friction $\mu_{\text{min}}$ required to sustain pure rolling is:
Teacher's Analytical Solution:
1. For pure rolling, acceleration down the plane is given by:
$$a = \frac{g\sin\theta}{1 + \frac{I}{MR^2}}$$
2. For a solid cylinder, $I = \frac{1}{2}MR^2$, hence:
$$a = \frac{g\sin\theta}{1 + 1/2} = \frac{2}{3}g\sin\theta$$
3. The frictional force required is $f = \frac{I a}{R^2} = \frac{1}{3}Mg\sin\theta$.
4. To prevent slipping, $f \le \mu N \implies \frac{1}{3}Mg\sin\theta \le \mu Mg\cos\theta \implies \mu \ge \frac{1}{3}\tan\theta$.
Correct Answer: Option (B)
What Students & Parents Say
Unfiltered feedback from JEE aspirants using LockInRank study modules
"Most platforms force phone logins or paid subscriptions before you can see a question. Here, I jumped straight into Rotational Motion DPPs with clean derivations. It feels like an actual classroom board."
"The simulator accurately replicates the current 25 questions per subject format with all 5 mandatory numericals. Practicing without the old optional-choice cushion has significantly sharpened my question selection."
"No promotional popups or sales calls. My son uses the syllabus tracker daily on his tablet to monitor his progress across all three subjects."
